NinjaOne to venture into SaaS protection with Dropsuite acquisition
NinjaOne has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Dropsuite, a SaaS backup and data protection provider, for $252 million. The acquisition, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be finalized during the first half of 2025. This move will integrate Dropsuite's SaaS data protection suite with NinjaOne's automated endpoint management platform.
The acquisition aims to provide IT organizations and managed service providers (MSPs) with enhanced tools to combat catastrophic events like ransomware attacks, as well as address common IT issues such as accidental data deletion and ensure data archiving for legal and compliance purposes.
Expanding the definition of "Endpoint"
Sal Sferlazza, CEO and co-founder of NinjaOne emphasized the evolving concept of the "endpoint," stating that it now encompasses not only devices but also users and their SaaS applications. He highlighted the importance of protecting and managing both personal and professional devices, as well as the applications used by customers and employees in today's hybrid work environment.
"We are watching the concept of an 'endpoint' evolve from a device to a user in real-time. The growth of SaaS applications, BYOD, and the move to remote and hybrid work has transformed customer expectations for endpoint management platforms," Sferlazza explained. "Organizations must protect and manage not only the personal and professional devices used by customers and employees but also the applications they use."
Integration plans and customer benefits
Dropsuite's cloud software suite offers secure backup, recovery, and protection for critical business information and data within SaaS applications. The integration with NinjaOne's platform will extend data protection to encompass both SaaS applications and physical device data. Customers will benefit from automated setup and recovery, enabling rapid restoration of files, emails, calendar data, and Entra ID.
The combined offering will also feature multi-tenancy compatibility, ensuring data protection across complex IT and MSP environments. Enhanced discovery capabilities will empower administrators to analyze historical data through an intuitive interface.
Dropsuite CEO sees synergies
Charif El-Ansari, CEO of Dropsuite, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "By joining NinjaOne, Dropsuite will be able to help provide customers with the tools needed to backup and protect endpoints and the most mission-critical SaaS applications from a single platform. We believe this will contribute to the continued success of our customers and our distribution partners.”
Emphasis on customer success and ease of use
Chris Matarese, president, CFO, and co-founder of NinjaOne, highlighted Dropsuite's customer-centric approach and the ease of use of its suite as key factors in the acquisition decision. "What impressed us most after our due diligence across the SaaS backup and data protection market is that Dropsuite is obsessed with customer success as much as NinjaOne, and their product is widely loved across its customer base and the nearly 1.5 million people who rely on it," Matarese explained.
He also reassured customers and partners that the company had carefully evaluated numerous potential acquisitions before selecting Dropsuite, emphasizing the importance of seamless integration with the NinjaOne platform.
"We have long said we are a build-before-buy company, and we want to assure our customers and partners that we have passed on a number of potential acquisitions and spent a lot of time to ensure that Dropsuite is as easy to use and deeply integrated into the NinjaOne automated endpoint management platform as the rest of our product suite.”
