Palantir, Anthropic and AWS team up to bring advanced AI to US defense agencies

Palantir Technologies, Anthropic, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a strategic partnership to enhance the technological capabilities of U.S. defense and intelligence agencies through AI. This collaboration aims to provide these agencies with access to Anthropic's advanced AI models, Claude 3 and 3.5, through Palantir's AI Platform (AIP) on AWS.

The integration of Claude's AI models into Palantir's AIP is designed to facilitate the responsible application of artificial intelligence in government operations. By leveraging these models, agencies can rapidly process vast amounts of complex data, identify patterns and trends more effectively, and streamline tasks such as document review and preparation. This enhancement is expected to assist officials in making more informed decisions during time-sensitive situations while maintaining their decision-making authority.

Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer at Palantir, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "Our partnership with Anthropic and AWS provides U.S. defense and intelligence communities the toolchain they need to harness and deploy AI models securely, bringing the next generation of decision advantage to their most critical missions," he said. "Palantir is proud to be the first industry partner to bring Claude models to classified environments."

The partnership leverages Amazon SageMaker, a fully managed service that facilitates the deployment of machine learning models at scale. Hosted on Palantir's Impact Level 6 (IL6) accredited environment and supported by AWS, the collaboration meets some of the strictest security protocols required by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Both Palantir and AWS are among the few companies to have received the DISA IL6 accreditation.

Kate Earle Jensen, Head of Sales and Partnerships at Anthropic, highlighted the importance of bringing responsible AI solutions to classified environments. "Access to Claude 3 and Claude 3.5 within Palantir AIP on AWS will provide defense and intelligence organizations with powerful AI tools capable of rapidly analyzing vast amounts of complex data," she stated. "This will significantly improve intelligence analysis and support officials in their decision-making processes."

Dave Levy, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector at AWS, also commented on the collaboration. "We are excited to partner with Anthropic and Palantir to offer new generative AI capabilities that will drive innovation across the public sector," he said. "At AWS, we are committed to providing our customers and partners with the most secure, innovative, and comprehensive set of cloud services."
