Palantir partners with Microsoft to integrate AI into US defense and national security systems
Palantir Technologies and Microsoft Corporation have announced a major expansion of their partnership to bring advanced cloud, AI, and analytics capabilities to the U.S. Defense and Intelligence Community.
This collaboration represents a significant leap in the integration of artificial intelligence into critical national security missions, combining Microsoft's cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) with Palantir’s robust AI Platforms (AIP) within Microsoft's government and classified cloud environments.
Through this partnership, Palantir's suite of products—Foundry, Gotham, Apollo, and AIP—will be deployed on Microsoft Azure Government, as well as in the Azure Government Secret (DoD Impact Level 6) and Top Secret clouds. Palantir will also be an early adopter of Azure's OpenAI Service in Microsoft's Secret and Top Secret environments, further cementing the partnership’s role in pioneering the application of AI in national security.
The collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between Palantir and Microsoft, who have both been instrumental in delivering technology solutions for some of the most critical U.S. Defense and Intelligence missions.
Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer at Palantir, emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership saying, “Bringing Palantir and Microsoft capabilities to our national security apparatus is a step change in how we can support the defense and intelligence communities. Palantir AIP has pioneered the approach to operationalizing AI value – beyond chat — across the enterprise. It’s our mission to deliver this software advantage, and we’re thrilled to be the first industry partner to deploy Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in classified environments.”
Deb Cupp, President of Microsoft Americas, highlighted the importance of responsible AI deployment: “This expanded partnership between Microsoft and Palantir will help accelerate the safe, secure, and responsible deployment of advanced AI capabilities for the U.S. government. Palantir, a leader in delivering actionable insights to government, will now leverage the power of Microsoft’s government and classified clouds and robust Azure OpenAI models to further develop AI innovations for national security missions.”
As part of the partnership, Palantir and Microsoft are offering boot camp experiences to the Defense and Intelligence Community, allowing them to trial the integrated technology and explore its potential applications in various national security missions.
These initiatives are expected to provide U.S. defense and intelligence operators with a significant technological edge, enhancing capabilities across a range of critical operations—from logistics and contracting to prioritization and action planning.
